Model Program of Self-Sufficiency |
| Affordable Substance Abuse Treatment for Women - Arizona Holistic Rehab. Freedom from alcohol and substance abuse is what WINR is all about. WINR women are celebrating one - ten years of sobriety as a direct result of following the proven process and the heart-felt commitment of participants. |
In 1993, with just 12 beds in Mesa, Arizona, the program has expanded to its present size with little Government help and no or United Way funding. In the beginning everything from the grocery shopping to transporting residents to and from meetings was done by one person. That one person taught the next person, a resident of the program, to do part of this work. That second person taught another resident and so on and so forth. This is an integral part of our philosophy. Through taking responsible positions at WINR, the person learns many of the things lacking they will need to integrate into society. We help not only with the initial stage of recovery, but are involved with the person in gaining the skills necessary to be successful in the world. We contract out for degreed and certified counselors for our groups. Our Relapse Prevention and Chronic Relapse counselors are Gorsky-trained and certified. We also have volunteers from the professional community who run seminars for a variety of living and employment skills. Included are money management instruction, on-site computer training, and communications skills classes. There is so much to do. We are scouting for a business for WINR. A business where we might train people in new skills and where we could provide a useful products or service to our community. A business where we could make money to continue to support our programs and expand services. There are a lot of opportunities for anyone who wants to get involved. We welcome any ideas. We are very grateful to have evolved into the largest women's program in the Southwest and to be able to claim the success rates we have tracked. To date we find a 73% recovery rate for those people completing the entire program. |
